Cameron Smotherman made weight ahead of his scheduled UFC bantamweight fight in a day's time.

And then he collapsed before he made it off the stage.

Smotherman weighed in at 135.5 pounds, just squeaking under the 136 pounds that he needed to make it below.

Almost immediately as he began to walk off the stage, though, he fell face first to the ground.

Athletes often have to drop a bunch of body weight in the lead up to the weigh-in, a process that can involve intentional dehydration and restrictions on sodium and carbs. That would be the most likely reason for such a collapse.

Smotherman was "eventually carried off the platform at T-Mobile Arena and tended to by physicians," according to ESPN.

The weigh-in took place ahead of UFC 324 on Saturday. Smotherman was slated to take on Ricky Turcios, but the bout has been canceled after the collapse.

Smotherman is 1-2 in three UFC appearances in his career, and he's 12-6 overall in his MMA action.
