Amaya Beckles, Justin Gregoire voted Seacoast Athletes of the Week

Newmarket's Amaya Beckles and Somersworth's Jackson Gregoire are Seacoast Athletes of the Week for Jan. 12-17.

The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week for Jan. 12-17 are Newmarket High School girls basketball player Amaya Beckles and Somersworth boys basketball player Jackson Gregoire.

Beckles joins previous girls winners this winter: Marshwood High School basketball player Isabelle Tice, Exeter High School cross country athlete Lexi Paterna, Dover High School basketball player Avery Littlefield and Winnacunnet High School swimmer Makenna Babineau.

Gregoire joins previous boys winners this winter: Oyster River High School hockey player Nolan Walsh, Oyster River High School boys basketball players Will Jernigan, Dover High School basketball player Michael Gorman and Marshwood/Traip wrestler Rogan Boisvert.

York County College presents the Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week.

The weekly polls run each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports. The honors are presented by York County Community College.

Beckles won the online poll by receiving over 36% of the votes, totaling 152. Oyster River/Portsmouth hockey player Eliza Farwell finished second with over 27%.

York basketball player Nya Avery had 15%, Dover swimmer Jane Yun had over 11% and Portsmouth swimmer Brianne Lynch had over 10%, to round out the five nominees.

Beckles scored 24 points in Newmarket's 63-27 Division IV win over Mount Royal Academy on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Beckles also scored 17 points in Monday, Jan. 12 Division IV win over Epping and scored 14 points in Newmarket's 44-29 Division IV loss to Littleton on Friday, Jan. 16.

Gregoire won the online poll by receiving nearly 38% of the votes, totaling 277. Somersworth/Coe-Brown hockey player Maddox Messier finished second with over 34%.

Exeter hockey player Cam Knowles had over 17%, Portsmouth skier Jack Martin had nearly 6% and Dover swimmer Edi Petro had nearly 5%, to round out the five nominees.

Gregoire scored a career-high 24 points, with six 3-pointers, in the Hilltoppers' 59-56 Division IV win over Raymond on Friday, Jan. 16. Gregoire also made big plays and made two 3-pointers in Monday, Jan. 12 loss to Derryfield.

"I am extremely proud of Jackson this season, and our team as a collective group," Somersworth head coach Jeff Gregoire said. "We expanded his role this year, he has done well working on it and it showed (against) Raymond. We have a bunch of them that can have these games, so it's a team effort. Looking forward to building off this. I want to congratulate the others who were nominated as well."
