It would appear that Manchester City’s transfer business in terms of incoming players in January may be done. Having said that, perhaps there is one more move for City to make. Ahad Shaukat has reported for CaughtOffside that Michael Kayode’s impressive form for Brentford has caught the eye of Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan, Newcastle United, and Tottenham. Furthermore, Shaukat reports that Manchester City are emerging as the most serious suitors for the Italian right-back. As per Shaukat’s report, a summer move from City to sign Kayode from Brentford seems to be the most likely scenario. Lastly, Shaukat reports that Brentford could see Kayode for a transfer fee of between €35-40 million if they do decide to cash in on the talented young right-back.

If Manchester City are in the market for a right-back, either now or in the summer, they could do a lot worse than sign Michael Kayode from Brentford. Kayode has impressed with Brentford this season after completing a permanent move to the club from Fiorentina after having a successful loan spell with them. He made 27 appearances in all competitions for Brentford this season, and he does look to be an exciting defensive prospect.
As a defender, Michael Kayode has all the necessary attributes to become a fine defender. The Italian international is exceptionally intelligent, which helps him position himself well defensively. With his speed, athleticism, and strength, Kayode more than holds his own defensively. This has stood out this season as he has had no problems dealing with the physicality in the Premier League. Kayode times his challenges well, and there are shades of Nathan Aké in Kayode’s ability to utilize a well-timed sliding challenge. Having said all that, Kayode isn’t the finished product by any stretch as a defender. There is still plenty of room for improvement in his game as a defender.
In possession, he is very good when carrying the ball. He tends to take long strides when getting up the pitch, and that allows him to progress the ball with ease. As a passer, Kayode is a clean passer who can play a variety of passes. Kayode is adept at helping Brentford keep possession, and he is also adept at playing passes with his left foot as well as his right. Kayode isn’t an exceptional crosser of the ball, as this side of his game does need to improve. All told, Kayode could be a player who would improve significantly playing under Pep Guardiola.

The question for me is: Could Hugo Viana have one more move left in him this month? It would be foolish to suggest that Viana doesn’t. If a move is there to be made in the transfer market, Viana has already shown that he will strike. If Manchester City’s Director of Football feels he can sign Kayode this month, he will pounce. Whether or not Brentford would consider selling Michael Kayode this month is another question entirely.
Perhaps Michael Kayode is a player that Manchester City will look to sign in the summer. Given his age, potential, and obvious talent, it is easy to see why City would be tracking Michael Kayode’s performances this season. The Italian right-back could be a player who slots seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
