UFC 324 video: Alex Perez puts one-sided beatdown on Charles Johnson for fast knockout

UFC vet scores fast finish

Alex Perez missed weight for UFC 324, but he was on the mark on fight night.

The flyweight veteran came out swinging Saturday night and he battered Charles Johnson with a barrage of punches to secure a first-round knockout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Watch the furious finish below.

Perez, a one-time UFC title challenger, was badly in need of a win coming off of two consecutive losses and just one win in his previous six fights. He also missed weight by over two pounds on Friday and revealed in his post-fight interview that this was the last fight on his current contract.

The way he fought Saturday, Perez can expect to work out a new deal soon. Perez rocked Johnson with a left hook and didn’t let up, pursuing the durable Johnson around the cage with strikes. Referee Jason Herzog gave Johnson plenty of time to recover, but eventually waved off the bout at the 3:16 mark of Round 1.

A dazed Johnson didn’t immediately register that the bout was over and went for a post-fight takedown on a celebrating Perez, but fortunately for everyone in the cage, the situation quickly deescalated.

Perez (26-10) improves to 8-6 overall in the UFC, while Johnson (18-8) has now lost two of his past three fights.
