The 3A boys state qualifying divisional meets were held on Friday, with Canyon View and Delta winning their respective divisional meets.

Canyon View tallied 294.5 points to win the Division A tournament at Richfield High School, with nine-time defending state champ Juab close behind at 290 points. Their tight finish makes for an intriguing upcoming state tournament.

Canyon View qualified 26 wrestlers for state, including four divisional champs. Juab, meanwhile, qualified 24 wrestlers for state and had five divisional champs.

In the Division B tournament at Union High School, Delta prevailed in a tight race along with Morgan and Union. The Rabbits finished with 265 points, with Morgan in second with 248.5 points and Union in third with 239.5 points.

Delta qualified 17 wresters for state, with Morgan finishing with the most qualifiers from Division B with 21 wrestlers.

The 16 state tournament individual qualifiers will now rest up for the two-day state tournament at the Sevier Valley Center on Feb. 4-5. Juab will be looking to win its 10th straight 3A state championship, which would put it in second place all-time for the longest streak in state history.

Brighton holds the record with 11 straight state titles from 1978 to 1988.

Among the other storylines to watch at the 3A state tournament are Union’s Tucker Roybal seeking a fourth individual title, and Juab junior Ladd Holman seeking a third championship.

Six other 3A wrestlers are chasing repeats: Juab’s Trevor Cowan, Juab’s Jet Abbott, Juab’s Braxten Blackett, Delta’s Harvey Walgren, Carbon’s Riker Ohearon and Canyon View’s Alex Crawley.
