While Pedri’s injury is a massive blow to Barcelona’s midfield, the club is set to celebrate the return of Gavi from his long-term absence in the coming weeks.
The youngster, after all, underwent surgery after suffering a tear in his meniscus in August and has not played for the club since.
Five months have passed since he last featured and the road back to complete fitness has not been easy for him. The player, however, has powered through and is on the verge of a return.

As reported by AS in a recent update, Barcelona were extremely cautious over Gavi’s setback and situation because it affected the meniscus in his knee – the structure which protects the articulating joint surfaces from friction.
Any further setback would mandate a direct removal of his medial meniscus – something that would predispose him to bony spur formations in the joint and potentially threaten his career as a professional footballer.
Had Gavi undergone surgery when the club advised him to, his injury could have healed in five weeks. His reluctance to go under the blade, however, worsened the tear significantly and kept him out for five months.
As it stands, Gavi has practically recovered from his injury and is at an important stage in his recovery. The objective now is to restart training with the group.
The current plan is to have the academy midfielder back in training in ten days, marking a milestone in his recovery.
Barcelona, needless to say, will be cautious over his integration and will gradually phase him back into the dynamics. After all, he has not had any match practice in close to six months.
