Despite training on Friday, Cole Palmer is not in Chelsea’s team to face Crystal Palace today.
The latest minor injury he’s picked up has ruled him out, but is only part of the bigger picture at the moment. The attacking midfielder has been struggling with a groin injury, and since returning before Christmas has not been able to recapture his previous form.
He’s apparently 100% healed – but doesn’t look it. He’s a step slow to everything, not playing with his usual magic, and his frustration is visible. That’s led to increasing rumours about his future. But TeamTalk today quote a source which denies there’s anything wrong, or any desire from the attacker to leave.

“Chelsea love Cole Palmer and everything he has done since arriving, they want him to be part of the project long-term, they made that clear from the start and that stance has not changed,” they write, quoting their source.
We hope that’s true. The speculation is damaging for everyone. The most important thing is that he gets fit, both injury free and up to match speed. Then he can focus on playing well. Then he’ll be happy again, and these rumours will go away.
Sadly, every game which he’s out of the squad, like this one, will only lead to speculation ramping up.
In other news…
Chelsea’s team news for today’s game is out, and Palmer isn’t in the side. He’s not been in great form of late anyway – it will be very interesting to see how the team cope without him.
Liam Delap is going to score some more goals – we just know it. His boss believes in him too. Liam Rosenior’s pre-match words confirmed his own belief in his striker.
