Darrell Higgins, who led Mars Hill Bible School (AL) to four state championships, has himself a new high school football head coaching job in the state of Alabama.
According to a report by WAAY 31 ABC’s Max Cohan, Higgins has officially been named the next head football coach at Russellville (AL).
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Higgins and his family to Russellville and proud to have him here to lead our Golden Tigers,” Russellville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim Guinn said in the press release. “Obviously his record and accomplishments speak for themselves, but his reputation and character precede all of the accolades. I believe he is the perfect person to lead our students and build on the proud tradition we have here at Russellville.”
Higgins is the only coach in Alabama high school football history to win state titles in three different classifications, holding a 29-5 playoff record. The Panthers win seven region titles and four state championships in 2018 (Class 1A), 2020 (Class 2A), 2024 (Class 3A), and 2025 (Class 3A).
The Golden Tigers ended this past season with an 7-5 record and finished ranked No. 105 in the final 2025 Alabama High School Football Massey Rankings.
“I have been very familiar with Russellville over the years and have a lot of great memories playing here,” Higgins said in the release. “I am excited and ready to get to work and to be a part of the community. It would take a lot to get me to leave Mars Hill, but I believe God opened a lot of doors and answered a lot of questions to make this possible.”
