Michael Carrick has breathed new life into Manchester United, who secured a convincing 3-2 win over Arsenal.

The Premier League leaders looked out of ideas against Carrick’s tricky Reds and were eventually left with no other option but to rely on their set-pieces to trouble the visitors. Arsenal created just 0.39(xG) from open play at their own backyard.

United, meanwhile, played on the front foot and Carrick’s brave introduction of Matheus Cunha ensured all three points for the Red Devils. The Brazilian curled in a fine effort from the edge of the box to seal back-to-back Premier League wins for his side.

Steve Holland’s arrival has greatly helped Michael Carrick

Manchester United’s phenomenal performances against Manchester City and Arsenal have rapidly skyrocketed Michael Carrick’s reputation.

However, another tactical mastermind has played an instrumental role in United’s turnround.

According to Centre Devils’ SullyTalkz, Steve Holland, who is Carrick’s number two, has made a massive difference behind the scenes at Carrington.

The United insider posted: “Not many will know the work this man [Holland] has put in behind the scenes, alongside Carrick.

“Pivotal to all the work you guys have seen so far on the pitch. Whether it’s in training or in the analyst room, Holland has been key. Praise must be given.”

The 55-year-old coach has previously assisted former England manager Gareth Southgate. Before working with the Three Lions, Holland was at Chelsea, where he worked with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Roy Keane yet to be convinced by Michael Carrick

Despite Holland’s brilliance, all the spotlight is on Carrick, and rightly so. He has now beaten Pep Guardiola, Arteta (twice), Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel in his five matches in charge of the Mancunians.

After the full-time whistle at the Emirates, Roy Keane praised United’s approach and mentality that helped seal a comeback win over Arsenal.

Furthermore, the former United midfielder was quizzed whether INEOS should consider Carrick for the permanent role. However, Keane insisted the interim boss has not done enough to be among the candidates for the position.

“Even if they do get into fourth, I still wouldn’t be convinced he’s the man for the job. Absolutely not,” Keane said on Sky Sports.
