The Women’s Other Top 25: Rhode Island jumps to No. 2

The Rams have won 12 in a row and are 18-2 this season

Rhode Island is on a tear this season and has won a dozen straight games. The Rams jump four spots up to No. 2 in this week’s Women’s Other Top 25 behind Princeton, who remained in the top spot for an eighth straight week.

Rhodie is 18-2 and a perfect 9-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams have knocked off both Richmond and Davidson, who are third and eighth in the poll this week. Their last loss came to the aforementioned Tigers. They also defeated then-No. 16 NC State on the road in non-conference.

Tammi Reiss’ team is 51st in the NET and 61st in BartTorvik. The Rams are 3-1 in the first two quadrants. Rhode Island sits seventh nationally in scoring defense by allowing 53.4 points per game. That’s less than two and half points behind leader UConn.

Everyone else in the top six slid back one spot. George Mason and Davidson followed at seven and eight to give the A10 four of the top eight. Columbia and Harvard rounded out the top 10.

UNLV jumped eight spots from 23 to 15. The Rebels are the highest ranked of three Mountain West teams with Colorado St. and San Diego St. at 19 and 20.

Three teams who were unranked last week joined the ranking this week. McNeese St. came in at 21. Arkansas St. followed at 22, and Miami (OH) was 23.

The Cowgirls are 16-4 this season and 10-1 in the Southland. They’ve won nine straight games. The Red Wolves, who won the Sun Belt last season, are 18-4 this season and off to a 9-1 start in conference play. The RedHawks are 16-4 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the MAC. They have also won nine in a row.
