The Bears will retain their offensive coordinator after going through the Eagles’ OC interview process.
Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle has removed himself from consideration for the Eagles’ vacant offensive coordinator opening, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Monday.
Doyle, 29, had been requested to interview with Philadelphia when the Bears’ season ended after their Divisional Round loss to the Rams. Bears head coach Ben Johnson granted him permission to take the interview, with the opportunity to call plays on offense for the Eagles surely being an alluring opportunity.
In the end, Doyle returns to Chicago for his second season as the team’s offensive coordinator. He was brought in upon Johnson’s hiring in 2025, having previously served as the tight ends coach for the Broncos.
Though Johnson called the plays for the Bears, Doyle’s presence helped elevate the offense and keep the players sharp on their assignments. After struggling for the last few years, Chicago’s offense ranked sixth in total yards per game, ninth in points per game, and tenth in PFSN’s Offense Impact scoring.
Doyle comes highly regarded, both within the Bears’ organization and around the NFL. His success and football intelligence for such a young coach has impressed many, particularly among those who have worked with him. Johnson stated the following about Doyle upon hiring him as Chicago’s new OC.
“[Former Lions OC John Morton] said, ‘Ben, listen, he’s another Ben Johnson,’ which, I think that’s a good thing,” Johnson joked. “I’m banking on that being a good thing. Listen, I think he and I are a match made in heaven. He thinks very much like me. It’s been awesome getting him into the building the last few weeks. Extremely detailed. Extremely organized. The age does not matter. He is going to be respected by not only the players but also his fellow coaches as well.”
In his second year as offensive coordinator, Doyle will be tasked with maintaining that level of continuity on the Bears’ offense, while also managing the development of such young players as Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland.
