Luka Dončić earns this honor for the second time as a Laker and the 16th time in his career.
LOS ANGELES -- Luka Dončić continues to stack up his accolades behind his dominant play.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Jan. 19 to 25, the league announced Monday, marking his second such honor with the franchise and the 16th weekly award of his career.
It came after a three-game stretch that showcased Dončić at the height of his powers -- controlling tempo at his pace, bending defenses and stacking milestones along the way.
Across the week, Dončić averaged 34.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 49.2 percent from the field, delivering three 30-point performances that included one triple-double and two double-doubles -- he has five triple-doubles and 22 double-doubles this season.
The run featured road wins over the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks as the Lakers continue to push without their starting backcourt partner, Austin Reaves.
The Slovenian posted his 52nd 30-point triple-double of his career in the Lakers' road win over the Nuggets, pushing him past Nikola Jokić for second all-time with 38 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
It was also his fourth time this season that he posted a 30-point triple-double, which placed him alongside LeBron James and Magic Johnson as the only players in Lakers history to record at least four in a season.
He also became the youngest point guard to surpass 14,000 career regular-season points and the youngest player in NBA history to reach 1,500 career regular-season three-pointers.
Dončić closed the week by torching his former team in his second time in Dallas since being traded to Los Angeles last season. In a win over the Mavericks on Saturday, Dončić posted 33 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds in a 116–110 road win that pushed the Lakers to 27–17 on the season.
The Lakers are 23-13 with Dončić in the lineup this season, as he remains the NBA's top scorer with 33.4 points (8.7 assists, 7.8 rebounds) a game.
