A wild new rumor suggests one of the most powerful agents in sports could be looking to help Giannis Antetokounmpo get traded to the New York Knicks.
The last three seasons have created speculation that would have been ridiculous a few years ago. And that is the notion of the Milwaukee Bucks trading the greatest player in franchise history. But that is what happens when a team and player with championship aspirations get eliminated from the NBA playoffs in the first round for three straight seasons.
The trade chatter was as loud as ever this summer, and despite reports that the team and the NY Knicks had introductory discussions about a deal, Antetokounmpo began the year in Milwaukee. Yet, despite some bold offseason decisions to get the team back in title contention and keep the Greek superstar happy, the Bucks have been the league’s biggest letdown this season.
While Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to claim publicly that he will never request a trade and the Bucks are in no rush to move him, the word around the game continues to point to a divorce at some point soon. Be it before next month’s trade deadline, or this summer.
However, a surprising new report suggests one agent might be trying to get the Bucks star to wherever he wants to go sooner.
Rich Paul trying to help Giannis get to NY Knicks?
According to Henry Abbott of True Hoop, super agent Rich Paul is trying to work back channels to push out Giannis Antetokounmpo’s agent, Alex Saratsis, and take over the role.
“Rich Paul of Klutch Sports not only tends to talk about Giannis, but also–multiple sources agree–has been talking to Giannis’s brother Thanasis as of late,” Abbott wrote. “Rich, it seems clear, would like to represent Giannis and is said to have been making the case that he’s the guy who can get a star player where he wants to go.”
Reports over the summer have claimed New York is where the two-time NBA MVP wants to play because he enjoys spending time in the city during the offseason. While he might be open to the idea of playing for the Brooklyn Nets, it’s more likely he wants to go to the NY Knicks since they can compete for a championship as soon as this season.
Paul represents NBA stars LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Draymond Green, among many others.
