CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The honors are piling up for Illini freshman Keaton Wagler after his 46-point performance in the win over Purdue.
Wagler earned both Freshman and Co-Player of the Week honors from the Big Ten Conference, now with four Freshman of the Week titles this season for the most for an Illini since Kofi Cockburn.
He was also recognized by NCAA March Madness, the Naismith Trophy, and the Lute Olson Award as their Player of the Week, and was named Freshman and Player of the Week by Field of 68.
Wagler’s 46 points broke the single-game freshman scoring record and put him in second overall for a single-game effort. His nine three-pointers were the most in program history, and he became the highest-scoring opponent to play in Mackey Arena.
The Illini and Wagler host Washington on Thursday, January 29 at 8 p.m.
