Barcelona are on the verge of completing another addition to their youth structure, with Patricio Pacifico already travelling to Spain to finalise his move.
The 19-year-old left-back is set to become Barcelona’s newest signing in the coming hours, marking another step in the club’s continued focus on young, high-potential talent.
Uruguayan journalist Rodri Vazquez revealed via Jijantes that Pacifico was spotted at Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo and was scheduled to fly to Barcelona today.
All of this indicates that all parties involved consider the agreement practically closed, with only formalities remaining before the deal is officially announced.
Details of the move
Pacifico is not travelling alone for what is expected to be a decisive moment in his career.
He is accompanied by his agent, as well as the president of Defensor Sporting, Diego Franzini.
The Uruguayan defender will initially join Barça Atletic, with Barcelona and Defensor Sporting having structured the deal as a loan.
As part of the agreement, Barcelona hold an option to purchase 80% of the player’s federative rights for €3 million. That amount could rise to €3.8 million depending on performance-related variables.
The conditions attached to the purchase option are clearly defined. For Barcelona to activate it, Pacifico must play at least 30 minutes in a minimum of ten matches over the next five months.
This clause ensures that the club’s final investment will be based on real sporting contribution rather than potential alone.
Defensor Sporting retain certain rights
In addition, Defensor Sporting will retain 20% of any future transfer fee should Pacifico be sold later on.
It is also worth noting that both the player and his representative have agreed to waive part of the percentages that would normally correspond to them, which helped facilitate the agreement.
The left-back is expected to arrive in the Catalan capital on Wednesday and link up with the reserve side immediately.
There, he will begin working under the guidance of Juliano Belletti, focusing on adapting to European football, the club’s tactical demands, and life in a new environment.
