This year, Manchester United are widely expected to overhaul their midfield. Indeed, the Red Devils’ engine room is not where it needs to be.
Caretaker head coach Michael Carrick, together with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Kobbie Mainoo, may have stumbled upon a midfield formula capable of carrying United through to the end of the season.
Yet, with Casemiro set to leave once his contract expires in the summer and lingering quality concerns, INEOS therefore face the task of assembling an entirely new United midfield.
Chase for top midfield additions
Several top midfielders – Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson – have already been linked. However, with United needing two, if not three, reinforcements, landing all of these tried‑and‑tested Premier League stars looks a tall order.
Consequently, competition and the hefty asking prices leave United with little choice but to explore more attainable options, even as they continue striving to pull off a marquee signing from among their prime targets.
That is why INEOS believe that, should they fail to convince top target Wharton, SC Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi has already been identified as the perfect alternative.
Freiburg’s Manzambi linked
Meanwhile, Sport Boom are reporting: “Man Utd turn to SC Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi as alternative to Adam Wharton.”
Manzambi is regarded as one of the finest box‑to‑box midfielders emerging from the Bundesliga.
His performances have caught the eye, and moreover, his ice‑cold composure in his Europa League performances has prompted top European clubs to track him closely.
Much like Jude Bellingham during his Bundesliga days, Manzambi is being packaged as the next Michael Ballack.
At just 20 years old, he is a joy to watch: agile, tall, and blessed with excellent balance that allows him to glide past opponents. Furthermore, he covers the ground with remarkable efficiency and carries a strong presence in both phases of play.
Clearly, built for the Premier League, his profile is hard to ignore.
Premier League competition
Sports Boom confirm: “Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal are eager to sign him.”
While several English sides are being linked, the report stresses: “Manchester United have shown the strongest interest in Manzambi, with the Red Devils eyeing a summer move as part of a full midfield rebuild.”
Cheaper than Wharton
Crystal Palace may comfortably demand £100 million or more for Wharton. By contrast, United may not need to go that high for Manzambi.
As the report adds: “While his market value is pegged at €30M, the German club is reportedly baulking at any valuation below the €50M–€55M mark. Any deal at this price would shatter the club’s transfer record.”
Premier League the likely next stop
Nevertheless, despite interest from European giants such as Bayern Munich and PSG, the report claims a move to England is near certainty.
For the Old Trafford faithful, the hope is that United’s strong push ultimately pays off and that they secure one of the most exciting young talents in European football.
