Paul Finebaum has a knack for drawing out the most devoted and occasionally unbelievable moments from SEC country. Tuesday’s episode of his show was no exception.
Vance, a caller from Georgia, waited patiently on hold to ask Finebaum a question despite a tree crashing through his house moments earlier. When Finebaum picked up the call, Vance explained that a tree had fallen through his roof and into his bedroom roughly 10 minutes earlier.
When asked why he stayed on the line, Vance said there was little he could do immediately and reassured listeners that he and his dogs were unharmed.
“I was on hold and thought, ‘Well, what are you going to do? There’s nothing you can do this second,’” Vance said. Check out the exchange below (13:03 mark).
He went on to ask Finebaum about LSU’s transfer portal class, which might make him the caller of the day. The moment quickly circulated on social media, serving as another reminder of the extremes of SEC fandom.
It was not the first time Finebaum’s show was hijacked with a tree-related topic.

In 2011, Harvey Updyke famously called into the program and confessed to poisoning the historic Toomer’s Corner oak trees in Auburn. The crime was tied to Alabama’s loss in the 2010 Iron Bowl. The call led to his arrest and eventual conviction, putting the show in SEC history.
