“He plays like he’s 35” – Rosenior’s big backhanded compliment to star man

Liam Rosenior faced some tough questions today ahead of a tough game against Napoli tomorrow, but he was thrown some soft-balls too.

The Chelsea boss was asked to expound a little about Moises Caicedo, his star central midfielder, who is having an exceptional season. He didn’t hold back in his praise of the Ecuador star.

“Yeah, from my point of view, it’s my opinion [that he’s the best in the world in his position],” Rosenior said.

“As a defensive midfield player, I wouldn’t want to sit next to anybody else [sat next to him in the press conference] in the world. He knows that, I’ve told him, I’ve watched him. Obviously, I have a background at Brighton, I know everything about his career.

“The scary thing for him is that, yes, he is still young, but he plays sometimes like he’s 35 years old, because his understanding of the game is top. For me, one of the most exciting things about coming to this club is to work with players of Moi’s level and capacity, but also to try and help them to improve even more, which I think is achievable.”

It’s not often that being called you play like a 35 year old is a compliment, but today it is, and we totally get what he means. Tomorrow is a huge night for Caicedo to show what he can do on a truly European level.

Rosenior also answered questions about Cole Palmer. He continues to insist that the attacker is going nowhere, but that’s not going to stop people asking about it.

Chelsea are still planning to sell Tyrique George this month, but so far there’s been very little talk about a concrete offer. Things need to speed up this week if we’re to move the winger on.
