The Juventus Women’s First Team are into the semi-finals of the Italian Cup after beating Napoli 4-2 on aggregate.
The second leg went the same way as the first, with the Bianconere winning 2-1. Coach Massimiliano Canzi and Cristiana Girelli spoke after the match in Biella.
MASSIMILIANO CANZI
"In the first half, we were not clinical, making many mistakes with the final pass. When things aren't working, you have to look for the simple pass, and that's how we regained confidence in the second half. We need to be better at scoring goals more consistently. We always make a lot of openings and are improving in this regard. I always tell the girls that they earn and lose their starting spots themselves; all I do is evaluate their performances. When you're not up to scratch, you have less chance of playing. Results also matter: if things are going well and you're always winning, there's more rotation; otherwise, you have to rely on a smaller group. That said, I'm happy with everyone and, as demonstrated today, no players are left out. The more players I have available, the happier I am to have a wide range of options to choose from. [Martina] Rosucci has a calf problem that will be assessed in the coming days.”
CRISTIANA GIRELLI
"Reaching 237 appearances with Juventus is a huge thrill for me, as if it were my first day. Being part of this club's history is something that makes me very proud and, at the same time, responsible for what I do every day. It's great to share this milestone with [Arianna] Caruso, who now plays elsewhere but has shared so many moments and so many victories with me, I'm happy. We are a team of 25 players, there is a very high level of competitiveness and it has to be like that when you are at Juventus. We all know that we have to give our best every time we are called upon, especially during a match. We were keen to reach the Italian Cup semi-finals because this is a trophy we want to keep. For the rest, we take it game by game with the aim of winning them all. My goal is to win as much as possible with this shirt, whatever trophy we're playing for. I hope to do so by scoring because I'm a striker and I have to do my job. The numbers are important, I know, and 237 games is a huge number. When I arrived at Juventus, I imagined and hoped that I would have a long love affair with this shirt, and fortunately that's how things turned out.”
