Here are three promising fits for former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in the 2026 NFL Draft. Nussmeier looks to improve stock at the Senior Bowl.
Things didn’t go as planned during Garrett Nussmeier’s final season with LSU football. He performed well in 2024 and received positive feedback from several NFL teams, but he decided to return for one more season in Baton Rouge. The year proved to be frustrating with Nussmeier suffering an injury in fall camp. The veteran QB never quite looked to be himself.
Despite his frustrating fifth year at LSU, Nussmeier still has a good chance of being a Day 2 pick in the draft, according to The Athletic's Dane Brugler.
Here are three landing spots for the former Tiger that make perfect sense:
Los Angeles Rams
This would be an incredible landing spot for Nussmeier. The Rams’ head coach and offensive play-caller, Sean McVay, has shown an affinity for quarterbacks with Nussmeier’s style, typically favoring aggressive, accurate, and anticipatory throwers. The former LSU quarterback certainly fits the bill, and he should have a decent runway to sit for a year or two and develop behind the Rams’ veteran starter, Matthew Stafford.
This is by far the best situation Nussmeier could land in, as he’d have an elite offensive mind as his head coach, a top-tier veteran to learn from, and one of the more quarterback-friendly receivers in the league, Puka Nacua.
New York Jets
Landing with the Jets would certainly be a more trial-by-fire situation for Nussmeier, but the fit still makes sense. New York’s quarterback situation was a nightmare in 2025, rotating through Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook, none of whom appeared to be long-term options.
The Jets will likely sign a veteran this offseason, but they don’t have any young quarterbacks with upside on the roster. That’s where Nussmeier could come in. He’s got the talent to be someone the Jets’ coaching staff could turn to if things go south with whatever veteran they bring in, and he could realistically perform well behind what is a heavily underrated Jets offensive line.
Again, this certainly wouldn’t be the most exciting landing spot for the former Tiger, but it would be a place where he would have a clear path to playing time in year one.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are a different situation from the previous two options, as two of their three rostered quarterbacks this season, J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer, are still on their rookie contracts. However, both performed incredibly poorly in 2025, and Minnesota is an older team looking to push for a Super Bowl while the roster is still intact. They need another option to turn to if McCarthy doesn’t take a major leap next season, and Nussmeier could be just that.
Minnesota also has an excellent offensive infrastructure, with an above-average offensive line and a great receiving corps that includes another former Tiger, Justin Jefferson. If Nussmeier got the chance to start for them, there’s a world in which he could establish himself as their quarterback of the future.
