Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has weighed in on whether the Soweto giants are in the Betway Premiership title race.

The Glamour Boys beat Marumo Gallants in their last league outing on Tuesday, thanks to a wonder goal from Glody Makabi Lilepo.

As a result, Chiefs leapfrogged bitter rivals Orlando Pirates into second place and trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with two points, having picked up 30 points in 15 games.

Now, league title expectations have risen within a section of the Amakhosi faithful, but Kaze downplayed a title charge, despite acknowledging the visible improvement in points tally.

“We go game by game. Last season we were at 32 points after 30 games at the end of the season. Today we are 15 games with 30 points. It's a big improvement but we feel like we still have a big room for improvement,” he said.

"And we are going to compete in every game. Now our focus is going to shift to our CAF Confederation Cup game on Sunday against ZESCO and try to make the best out of that game.

With games coming thick and fast amid continental commitments, the Burundian tactician stressed the importance of squad rotation.

“Sometimes even when you don't want to make a rotation it becomes a necessity that's why today [vs Gallants] we had to rotate a little bit without losing our balance,” Kaze added.

The boys did well, as well as those who came in the second half, Given [Msimango], [Siphesihle] Ndlovu, [Luke] Baartman. They helped us to put the ball, to put our foot on the ball and to play with more control.
