Sibisi bullish about Pirates' trophy ambitions

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has sent a strong message to rival clubs that the Buccaneers are targeting a clean sweep of all trophies on offer.

The Soweto giants have already clinched the MTN8 title and the Carling Knockout Cup, en route to becoming the first-ever League Cup winners to beat the Carling All-Stars team last month.

On the other hand, Pirates trail log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with three points, having picked up 29 points in 13 matches - two games behind Miguel Cardoso's side.

With the Betway Premiership crown and the Nedbank Cup still on the line, Sibisi set the record straight that his team is gunning for every trophy they are in contention for.

“I think whenever you are representing such a big institution - we don't have to hide it to say that we are going for everything. I think in our very first press conference you [media] guys came and we spoke, we said we wanted everything that was on offer,” he said.

"Unfortunately, we came short in the Champions League but the other tournaments we managed to secure. So, there's still two more to play for - not only the championship, there's still the Nedbank Cup as well. So, for us it's just to give our all and see where it goes.

On the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hiatus, the Bucs skipper believes their momentum was halted as they settled for a goalless stalemate with Sekhukhune United upon their return to action.

“I think the break has been good for everyone in terms of getting freshness. It's always nice to be with your family during the December holidays and I think it prepares us coming into the year,” Sibisi added.

"For us it's just to keep on going, it's not how you start, it's actually how you finish because looking at how we started during the first round of the campaign - we started on a very slow note but we were able to gain momentum and get the results coming.

"The break didn't help us because we would have liked to continue with the momentum that we had but it was circumstances that were beyond our control, so we just have to keep going.
