Crystal Palace have announced the signing of forward Evann Guessand on loan from Aston Villa, with the club having the option to make the move permanent.
The Ivorian becomes Palace’s second signing of the winter transfer window, following the arrival of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur.
Guessand will wear the No. 29 jersey, previously worn by Naouirou Ahamada, who joined AJ Auxerre on a permanent deal earlier this month.
The 24-year-old joined Villa last summer after a promising campaign with Nice, where he won the club’s Player of the Season award.
However, he struggled to replicate that form at Villa Park, where he played second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, making 21 appearances across all competitions and scoring twice.
Guessand will now be hoping to get more game time at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to Palace’s official website, he said: “I’m really, really excited. I was waiting for this moment for a very long time, and I’m excited to play with my new teammates. I think, with the quality we have, we can achieve something.”
Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to surround the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has told the club he wants to leave this month.
Manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that Mateta will not be involved in their Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, although the decision has nothing to do ‘with a transfer’.
The French striker has agreed personal terms with AC Milan, but the Italian side have yet to agree on a fee with Palace.
