With reports of some inner turmoil, with Todd Monken hire derail the Cleveland Browns future plans?
After Todd Monken was hired as the Cleveland Browns’ next head coach, multiple reports indicated that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was unhappy with the decision and was seeking to leave the organization. While still under contract, he pursued the vacant head coaching position and expressed a strong interest in the role. It has yet to be revealedhow all of this will shakeout, but there could be some turmoil internally due to this coaching hire.
Myles Garrett posted a cryptic meme on his Instagram story soon after the news of the coaching hire and of Schwartz’s discontent. Garrett clearly enjoys playing for Schwartz and may be worried about his departure from Cleveland. Numerous reports suggest that several defensive players strongly support Schwartz and are unhappy with the possibility that he could be leaving. Ultimately, the organization must operate as a business and cannot base its decisions on appeasing players.
This league moves quickly, and if Monken can establish a winning culture quickly, any sour feelings from players or members of the organization will dissipate. If he struggles to lead the group, the team could experience lasting effects from this coaching hire.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Will the internal fallout from the Monken hire have a lasting impact on the team?
