Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez are both eyeing the same MotoGP seat in 2027, with Ducati opting to bring in Pedro Acosta to pair up with Marc Marquez.

Ducati have made their moves early, securing their line-up ahead of the new regulatory cycle. Marc Marquez was initially due to be out of contract at the end of 2026, while Acosta’s deal with KTM also ran until then.

Reports now suggest that Marc Marquez has agreed a two-year extension, following his title win in 2025. And Acosta is believed to have committed to a two-year deal starting from 2027.

Acosta is expected to take Bagnaia’s spot at Ducati. Bagnaia’s contract runs out at the end of this season, and Alex Marquez will also be out of contract by then, with his deal at Gresini set to expire after 2026.

Alex Marquez isn’t expected to renew his contract with Gresini, with the 29-year-old now eyeing a move to a factory team. He finished as runner-up to his brother in the 2025 championship but remains underpaid for his performance.

The Spaniard’s sights are set on joining either Yamaha or KTM in 2027, according to Motorsport.com, which claims he was paid just over €350,000 (£300k) in 2025 by Gresini. Marquez has reportedly earmarked Aprilia as a fallback option before considering re-signing with Gresini.

According to reports, Marquez is quietly exploring his options and prioritises Yamaha and KTM, though the latter’s financial instability gives Yamaha an edge in his planning.

Marquez would also have competition from within Yamaha’s current setup. Reports suggest that Pramac rider Toprak Razgatlioglu is already part of their long-term strategy.

Jorge Martin set to take Fabio Quartararo’s seat at Yamaha

Yamaha had hoped to pair Razgatlioglu with Fabio Quartararo in 2027, depending on how the Turkish rider performed during his first season in MotoGP with Pramac. But with Quartararo expected to leave at the end of this year, those plans now look very different.

The Frenchman is understood to have agreed a move to Honda from 2027, growing frustrated with Yamaha’s direction. At the same time, talks are ongoing for Jorge Martin to make the switch from Aprilia once his contract ends later this year.

So instead of featuring Razgatlioglu and Quartararo, Yamaha’s line-up could include Martin alongside either Marquez or Bagnaia. With so many options on the table, they’re unlikely to rush into a decision for their second seat.
