Arne Slot is under increasing scrutiny this season, with Liverpool struggling to recapture the form that brought them a league title just a year ago.
Last season’s title win was only the second in the club’s history, but this campaign has been a different story.
Liverpool are still searching for their first league win of 2026 as they prepare to host Newcastle United on Saturday evening. The poor start comes off the back of a stretch earlier in the season where they lost nine times in 12 matches across all competitions.
Arne Slot receives backing from Liverpool player’s agent
But one agent representing a current Liverpool player has now spoken up in support of the Dutchman.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the agent, who represents a ‘prominent’ member of the squad but chose to remain unnamed, backed Slot and indicated that he needs more time to reshape the squad in his own way.
“It’s madness. Slot is a very good coach trying to build a new team,” he said.
“He just needs some time. He is different to Klopp, but I am not sure how that has to be viewed as a bad thing.”
Arne Slot can’t use time to build the squad as an excuse anymore
Liverpool, of course, spent over £400m in the summer transfer window and earlier in the season, claims that the recent additions needed time to get up to speed were valid.
But now we are well past the halfway point of this season and there is no reason for any new player not to be up to speed by now. Not only that, but all three have been among some of Liverpool’s best players in recent games.
So far, it’s only been Alexander Isak who has not impressed after he was plagued with injuries and fitness problems for much of this campaign. But Hugo Ekitike has more than covered for him so far and looks like a genuine star in this league.
With everyone settled at Liverpool, there is no longer a good reason for them not winning Premier League games.
It is going to take some serious wins if Arne Slot wants to get fans back on his side. Maybe a win over Newcastle United could be just what they need.
