The nationally-ranked teams competing at the Nike EYBL Western Maryland Classic at Garrett College in McHenry, Maryland, lived up to their advance billing, going a combined 5-0 over three days at the event.
Both No. 4 Link Academy and No. 11 Wasatch Academy finished the event 2-0 against high-caliber opponents, while No. 2 AZ Compass Prep won its only game at the event. The Dragons' second scheduled contest against North Carolina's Christ School was canceled.
Still, it was a solid showing for the trio that each entered the competition ranked in the latest edition of The Sporting News Boys Basketball Top 25. The only real question coming out of the event is whether Wasatch Academy will be able to join the other two in the Top 10 when the next rankings are released on Tuesday.
The event was a showcase not only for some of the nation's top teams, but also for the top individual prospects that play for those teams. That included a long list of highly-coveted Link Academy Lions, like center Ethan Taylor (Michigan State), SF Tajh Ariza (Oregon), SF Luca Foster (Gonzaga), PG Carlos Medlock Jr. (Michigan State), C Tristan Reid (Mississippi State), and SF Trent Perry (Kansas).
AZ Compass Prep countered with SG Quincy Wadley (unsigned), CG Kaden House (Maryland), and SG Kalek House (Xavier) while unranked La Lumiere brought along its high-powered duo of PG Jonathan Sanderson (Notre Dame) and SF Jacob Webber (Purdue).
