It has been a quiet winter transfer window for Bayern Munich, but there’s still a lot of squad planning that’s going on behind the scenes. Leon Goretzka has just announced that he’ll be leaving the club during the summer as a free agent and the club’s front office is still working on new contracts for Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, and Harry Kane.

While there haven’t been any major signings this winter, there has been a lot of prospecting going on for this summer. Feyenoord defender Givairo Read has been a name mentioned internally at Bayern as they plan to get more cover at right back. Konrad Laimer has been a big miss when he’s been out injured and likewise Josip Stanišić. Not to mention, Sacha Boey missed over a month of action due to a gastrointestinal issue and has been linked with a move away from Bayern this summer and Vincent Kompany has had to rely on Tom Bischof on numerous occasions at both right back and left back — a player that’s a midfielder by trade.

Per information from football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both Bayern and Manchester City are remaining keen on trying to sign Read this summer, especially if Liverpool do not make a move before the winter transfer window officially closes. Arne Slot’s side are without Connor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, and Giovanni Leoni, so there’s added impetus for the reigning Premier League champions to find reinforcements as they struggle to get league results.

If Liverpool don’t make a move for Read, he is certainly a viable option for Bayern. His current contract at Feyenoord runs through June 2029 and he’s currently valuated at around 25 million euros, though he does not have a release clause. He’s missed a decent chunk of this season through injury, but the 19-year-old has proven himself to have a high ceiling after making his break into the Feyenoord senior squad not long after he made the move to their academy back in 2023. He’s got an exciting attacking presence and could prove to be the type of player with the right profile to suite Kompany’s system at Bayern.
