Manchester United have had a quiet winter window, preferring to keep their powder dry until the summer.

Departures

Joe Hugill has left the club for Kilmarnock on a permanent deal, and Harry Amass left Sheffield Wednesday to join Norwich City on loan.

Nonetheless, a serious injury in training looks to have significantly curtailed his progress in 2026.

Rhys Bennett has also left the club permanently, joining Fleetwood Town.

Gabriele Biancheri’s future

With the restructuring of the academy squad, there have been rumours that the young Welsh forward may be seeking a loan for more first-team opportunities.

Sheffield Wednesday were linked to the player, and it has been reported that United are also keen to sanction a temporary move for the forward.

Real Betis interest

Spanish paper AS reports that “Gabriele Biancheri is one of the names Betis is considering to bolster its attack this winter transfer window.”

The article continues to explain that, “the English club intends to loan the player out this January, and Betis has its sights set on this option should Cédric Bakambu not leave.”

It is not a straightforward deal, though, as Biancheri is a non-EU player, so there is no room for him in the first team.

Therefore, Betis are considering registering him with the reserve team, but this involves certain more complex steps that need to be resolved if a move is to occur.

Cédric Bakambu factor

If Real Betis forward Bakambu leaves the club, though, this will put the nail in the coffin of any move for Biancheri, as they will then pursue a more experienced striker for the second half of the season.

Were he to stay, then the club would feel more comfortable opting for a younger option such as the United academy forward.
