It is now official.
Bayern Munich’s search for a new campus director replace Markus Weinzierl, who joined in 2024, has now concluded. The official website confirmed the signing of Michael Wiesinger:
FC Bayern will restructure its sporting leadership in its youth academy. Michael Wiesinger (53) will join the FC Bayern Campus from the academy of 1. FC Nürnberg on May 1st as Sporting Director. Wiesinger was head of the youth department at Nürnberg and will take over the position in Munich from Markus Weinzierl (50), whose contract runs until the summer. Discussions regarding Weinzierl’s future are ongoing.
Current Bayern Campus director, Jochen Sauer, had this to say about the signing:
Sauer: “The campus is becoming increasingly important at FC Bayern. This is demonstrated by the current playing time of our young talents with the first team, especially Lennart Karl. This also increases our daily responsibilities. We are successfully planning the path to professional football for more and more players. To meet these demands, we have brought on board Michael Wiesinger, an experienced youth manager. Michael has done a successful job in Nuremberg for many years, and we are convinced that with him we will be even better positioned for the challenges of the future than we are now.”
Wiesinger himself said this: “I had a wonderful time as head of youth development in Nuremberg. Now I am very much looking forward to the exciting task of playing a responsible role in talent development at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
Good luck, Wiesinger, and fingers crossed you bring the same notable results from Nürnberg with you to Munich.
