Liverpool beat Chelsea to €60+10m Jérémy Jacquet signing — report

Yikes, that’s a lotta cashola!

Chelsea were strongly linked with highly rated young defender Jérémy Jacquet, with the Blues looking to possibly steal a march on rivals for the 20-year-old France youth international’s signature. Some reports earlier this month had gone even as far as to claim that we had agreed personal terms with the player, but, evidently, were not willing to pay Rennes’ asking price (or meet their conditions).

More recently, it seemed like we might have reconsidered that stance, but according to various reports today, including from Fabrizio Romano, it’s Liverpool who have managed to pony up the necessary cash. Romano reports that a €60m deal, with a further €10m in add-ons has been agreed — a new record sale for Stade Rennais, just as they were wanting. And they get to keep Jacquet for the rest of the season, on loan.

That’s definitely a whole lot of millions for a player with barely one full season of top flight football under his belt. It’s a massive bet, and the sort of transfer for which BlueCo Chelsea have been derided across much of football media. Let’s see how they rate Liverpool doing the same exact thing.
