The Steelers are continuing to add to their 2026 coaching staff over the weekend. On Sunday, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported that the team is expected to hire former Titans assistant strength and conditioning coach Mark Lovat. Minutes later, CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer reported the team will also be hiring Titans assistant strength and conditioning coach Grant Thorne.

Lovat was with current Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy for the latter’s entire tenure with the Green Bay Packers. In Green Bay, Lovat spent most of his time as the strength and conditioning coordinator. In 2024, he joined the Tennessee Titans as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Thorne has had a similar career path, joining the Packers later in 2013 but also signing with the Titans for the 2024-25 seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

The specific role each will have with the Steelers is currently unreported.

Alan Saunders of Steelers Now reported Sunday that both Lovat and Grant Thorne interviewed with the Steelers last week.

Additionally on Sunday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the team interviewed Texas Tech outside linebackers coach C.J. Ah You for the same role in Pittsburgh. Steelers Now’s Derrick Bell also reported that the team hired Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien as its next offensive coordinator.
