Canfield ice hockey finishes regular season at 16-9

Canfield closed out the regular season at 16-9 with a playoff game set for Monday.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKBN) – Canfield’s ice hockey team finished the regular season with a record of 16-9; tying the most wins in a season by the program.

On Saturday, the Cardinals defeated CVCA – 5-2 – at Garfield’s Ice Arena.

Senior Luke Scolieri closed out the day with 2 goals while Gavin Rupert, Jackson Dieringer and Michael Silvestri all had a goal and an assist.

Owen Orlovsky collected a pair of assists while Connor Cataneo also dished out an assist as well.

JJ Boris made 13 saves from his goalie position.

On Sunday, Canfield defeated Aurora 4-3 in overtime from Chagrin Falls.

Silvestri scored two goals including the game-winner in the extra session.

Rupert and Dieringer each had goals in the contest as well.

Boris knocked away 39 shots on goal from entering the net.

After finishing the season in fourth place in the Blue North Conference of the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League, Canfield will participate in the Baron Cup Blue Division Championship Tournament. The Cardinals open the post-season against Normandy at the John M. Coyne Recreation Center on Monday in Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
