United eyeing Goretzka (Sports Illustrated)

The future for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is wide open.

The free-agent-to-be turned down a move to Atlético Madrid for the winter transfer window, but did announce he was leaving Bayern Munich in the summer. Manchester United could be a destination for the Germany international:

Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a number of “very big” midfield signings this summer which could include the acquisition of soon-to-be free agent Leon Goretzka.

It has been confirmed by Bayern Munich that their outspoken midfielder will leave the club once his contract expires in June. Fabrizio Romano credited United with interest in the 30-year-old Champions League winner. No “advanced” talks are thought to have taken place just yet, and the Red Devils will not be alone in their approach for Goretzka. In the same breath, Goretzka will not be United’s only midfield target.

Romano excitedly insisted that the Premier League giants will “go very big” for midfield reinforcements over the summer, with the prospect for two marquee arrivals very much within the realm of possibility. Goretzka would certainly form an interesting starting point.

Goretzka will have options and might want a challenge in this final stretch of his career. However, the whole package has to fit for the midfielder. The financial package and opportunity for minutes will have to lineup. With Manchester United being so fickle, the minutes might be an issue.

Atlético Madrid gets Lookman (Fabrizio Romano)

Remember when Atalanta would not even respond to Bayern Munich’s inquiries on Ademola Lookman? Well, the Italian side just sent him to Atlético Madrid:

Prior to things going official, ESPN had this report on the situation:

Atletico Madrid are hoping to beat Fenerbahce to the signing of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman after having matched the Turkish club’s bid of €35 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano. Atleti look to have stolen a march on Fenerbahce, who are yet to agree terms or bank guarantees. The switch could have a ripple effect, as Lookman’s arrival could see Argentina striker Julián Álvarez move to Arsenal or Barcelona in the summer. Meanwhile, Romano claims Atleti were rebuffed over a move for FC Porto midfielder Gabri Veiga, but are set to land Marcos Leonardo from Al Hilal on loan.

Nübel caught in “tug-of-war” could go to England (Fussballdaten)

Bayern Munich loanee Alexander Nübel is likely to leave VfB Stuttgart after the season as Die Schwaben might not have the money to bring him on permanently:

As Alexander Nübel enters the decisive phase of his loan at the MHP Arena (planned until June 2026), his future has become a key strategic tug-of-war between VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern Munich . Having played a crucial role in Stuttgart’s return to European competition, the 29-year-old goalkeeper now stands at a turning point in his career.

Should Stuttgart be unable to raise the necessary funds, several English and Italian clubs are ready to meet the valuation of 30 million euros.

In some respects, this is positive news for Bayern Munich as it will almost assuredly look to sell the goalkeeper during the summer. It seems doubtful that the Bavarians will get €30 million, but Jonas Urbig is looking like “the next one” for Bayern Munich as Manuel Neuer decides whether or not he will continue to play.

LFC to land Jacquet? (ESPN)

With Bayern Munich considered to be out of the race, Liverpool could ultimately land Rennes defender Jérémy Jacquet:

Liverpool are set to battle Chelsea in the race to land Rennes center back Jérémy Jacquet, according TalkSPORT. Chelsea had already agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old defender earlier this month ahead of a move that could cost around €60 million at the end of the season, but Liverpool are now accelerating their plans after missing out on Marc Guéhi to Manchester City. Rennes are adamant that Jacquet won’t leave the club in January, so it’s down to the two English clubs to see who can thrash out a deal. But the Blues could miss out as Mamadou Sarr is set to return to the club and terminate his loan at Strasbourg, while Aaron Anselmino will head to the French side on loan instead.

Zinchenko to Ajax (Fabrizio Romano)

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s career arc has been wild. Now he’s off to Ajax:

Steffen sacked at Werder Bremen (Werder Bremen)

After a tough stretch, Werder Bremen has relieved Horst Steffen of his coaching duties:

Kolo Muani deal could be impossible for Juve (ESPN)

Juventus might not be able to land longtime transfer target Randal Kolo Muani and could shift focus to former Bayern Munich prospect and current Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee:

Tuttosport has offered an update on Juventus’ efforts to sign a striker now it is clear that a deal for Randal Kolo Muani, who is on loan at Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain, looks to be impossible. Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is reported to be their top target, with a loan being the most likely option Al Nassr’s Jhon Durán, 22, is also being considered, despite being on loan at Fenerbahce, while 38-year-old Karim Benzema is also tempting Juve after ESPN sources stated that the 38-year-old felt “disrespected” by Al Ittihad’s offer to extend his contract.
