AS Roma and Udinese go head-to-head at the Stadio Friuli on Monday night in their next Serie A encounter.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will look to keep their winning streak against Udinese by winning this, which will make it seven victories out of the last seven head-to-head encounters between these two teams.
Udinese vs AS Roma – Match preview and team news
- Date: Monday, 2nd February
- Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
- Venue: Bluenergy Stadium, Udine.
Udinese team news
Udinese will be without former Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo for this fixture, as the Italy international remains sidelined with a knee injury, though he is targeting a return next week.
His absence further shapes the hosts’ attacking options, though Udinese can still rely on the impressive form of Keinan Davis, who has been directly involved in 10 Serie A goals this season after scoring again in the emphatic 3-1 victory over Hellas Verona.
There are additional fitness concerns in the squad as well. Alessandro Zanoli, who found the net at Stadio Bentegodi in that recent win, subsequently suffered an ACL injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Adam Buksa and Jakub Piotrowski also remain on the treatment table with ongoing knee and thigh injuries respectively. On the left flank, Hassane Kamara is unavailable after being ruled out by head coach Kosta Runjaic due to a foot contusion, leaving the door open for Jordan Zemura to continue in his place.
AS Roma team news
Paulo Dybala, who has been involved in a league-record 21 goals from 22 Serie A matches against Udinese historically, will miss out with a knee problem and is expected to be sidelined for approximately two weeks. The situation is further compounded by the absence of Manu Kone, who has been ruled out for around three weeks.
Artem Dovbyk remains on the long-term absentee list. Evan Ferguson and Stephan El Shaarawy are both major doubts for this fixture. On a more positive note, Roma will welcome back Donyell Malen, the former Aston Villa forward on loan, and Robino Vaz, both of whom were ineligible to feature in European competition and are now available domestically.
Spanish centre-back Mario Hermoso has returned to full training and has been named in Roma’s squad list for the encounter.
Form
Udinese
Kosta Runjaic’s side secured a 3-1 away victory at Hellas Verona last weekend. This result lifted Udinese back into the top half of the Serie A table on 29 points and just one point adrift of Bologna. Their main concern remains their defense which sees them without a clean sheet in their last seven outings.
AS Roma
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side ended their recent league campaign with a 1-1 draw against AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico, which marked their first domestic stalemate since April. Koni De Winter had put Milan ahead shortly after the hour mark, but Lorenzo Pellegrini’s 74th-minute penalty equalised after Davide Bartesaghi’s handball.
Despite the draw, Roma have accumulated their best points return at this stage since the 2020/21 season, currently sitting on 43 points in fifth place.
Predicted lineups
Udinese: Okoye; Bertola, Kristensen, Solet; Ehizibue, Miller, Karlstrom, Ekkelenkamp, Zemura; Atta; Davis
AS Roma: Svilar; Mancini, Ndicka, Ghilardi; Celik, Cristante, El Aynaoui, Wesley; Soule, Pellegrini; Malen
