Jamie Carragher admits Casemiro has proved him wrong

Speaking during Sky Sports coverage after United’s 3-2 win over Fulham, Carragher praised Casemiro’s resurgence and even joked that the United star would be justified in firing back at him.

“It is now fair to say the football has not left him. Considering what he’s producing this season in the Premier League, and not just Fulham at home, you think what he did last week against Arsenal away and Manchester City at home,” Carragher said.

He added: “Casemiro is well within his rights to, if he wants to come back at me and say, ‘leave the punditry before the punditry’s left you!’ He could definitely get one of those back in.”

Carragher pointed to Casemiro’s influence in high-profile matches as evidence that his earlier judgment no longer holds. The turnaround has been one of the more notable narrative shifts of United’s season.

Jamie Carragher’s infamous Casemiro criticism from 2024

The comments stand in stark contrast to Carragher’s assessment from May 2024, made during a Sky Sports discussion later shared on YouTube.

“I always remember the saying ‘leave the football before the football leaves you’. The football has left him. At this top level, he needs to call it a day at this level and move,” Carragher said.

“The level of that player, he should not be putting himself through this. He is too good of a player to be putting in a performance like that, being laughed at by Crystal Palace. He needs to call it a day,” the former PL star urged.

At the time, Carragher’s words sparked widespread debate and criticism, but Casemiro’s recent form has flipped the conversation.

By acknowledging the shift, Carragher has shown a rare willingness to revisit and revise a strong punditry stance.
