Ibrahima Konate's future has been up in the air for a while, but Liverpool have just made his mind up for him.

The Reds have had a few contract issues over the years, but one that has dragged on longer than most is Konate's.

Liverpool have laid many offers on the table for the Frenchman, but he is still yet to sign a new deal, something that looks more unlikely than ever now as he enters the final five months of his existing contract.

However, if there was any late hope that he would extend his stay at Anfield, that appears to be gone after what the Reds have just done and said, with it almost certain now that Konate is likely to depart.

Liverpool promised Jeremey Jacquet a crucial role instantly

The biggest story at Liverpool late in the transfer window is that they have signed centre-back Jeremey Jacquet from Rennes in a deal worth up to £60m.

The 20-year-old is one of the biggest up-and-coming talents in French football and looks to be the future of the Reds, but there was still hope that this would be alongside Konate.

However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Jacquet was sold on the idea of moving to Liverpool after being promised a key role as soon as he arrives in the summer, suggesting that Konate will be on his way out.

"Jeremy Jacquet accepted the exactly same terms from Liverpool that was offered by Chelsea. Liverpool didn’t offer extra money. So why going to Liverpool and not going to Chelsea?" he said on his YouTube channel.

"Liverpool presented their long term project by telling the player that he was going to be a crucial player immediately, to be a big part of the Liverpool restyling in the defence.

"He’s going to be an important member of the squad, he’s not going to be a squad player. Liverpool believe he is going to be a really important player in terms of minutes, place for next season and the player was really tempted by that."

Ibrahima Konate has proven he will be a big miss for Liverpool

One issue Konate had was consistency, with many fans likely not too worried about losing him earlier on in the season due to how poor he was.

However, he has since found his feet again and been a key player at the back for the Reds, with their improved defensive record partly down to his upturn in form.

Clubs like Real Madrid and PSG will likely be very keen to get him onboard next season due to this, with his performances showing exactly why he will be a big miss for the Reds.

If there is a way they can keep him around and have him alongside Jacquet going forward, then they must at least try, but for now, it appears as if he will move on after months of uncertainty.
