Tom Brady leaves out Drake Maye in his ‘LFG Player of the Year’

Tom Brady’s personal awards for the 2025 season included naming his former Patriots teammate and current New England coach Mike Vrabel as one of the “LFG Coach of the Year.”

When it came to “Player of the Year,” though, Brady only named one player.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion chose Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“I was so impressed by what he did throughout the entire season,” Brady said in the video posted by FOX Sports. “I think his consistency was incredible. He showed up in the biggest moments for his teammates. He made throws that so few guys in the NFL can make.”

Brady mentioned the success Stafford and the Rams had on the road. LA went 5-4 away from SoFi Stadium, while Drake Maye and the Patriots were a perfect 8-0.

“He did it in tough conditions,” Brady said of Stafford. “And look, they play in the dome out there at SoFi all the time, but he went on the road. They were great on the road, and they were great when he had his main guys go down a few times. Puka (Nacua) was down, Davante (Adams) was down, and he always found ways to produce.”

Stafford, along with Maye, is a finalist for the NFL MVP Award. Brady, who doesn’t get a vote, said he would give it to Stafford over the second-year Patriots signal-caller.

While Stafford had a stellar season for LA with a league-leading 46 touchdowns, Maye did more with less. Stafford had Nacua and Adams to throw to. Maye got everyone involved in the offense, but had to build chemistry with rookie TreVeyon Henderson, who had a slow start to the year, and Stefon Diggs who was coming off a torn ACL.

In New England’s Week 17 win against the New York Jets, Maye threw five touchdowns to five different receivers. He’s was also without Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte throughout the year, and Rhamondre Stevenson’s fumbling woes to begin the year were tough to overlook.

Brady’s awards are just for fun, though. Stafford and Maye will find out who will win the MVP on Feb. 5 during the NFL Honors show.
