Kansas basketball picks up Big 12 Conference win on road at Texas Tech

Kansas basketball’s winning streak is still alive. The Jayhawks just earned a Big 12 Conference win on the road on Monday against Texas Tech.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Kansas basketball’s winning streak is still alive, after the Jayhawks picked up a 64-61 win on the road Monday against Texas Tech.

No. 11 KU (17-5, 7-2 in Big 12) has now won six games in a row, with this being the third in that stretch that has come on the road. Although the Jayhawks struggled through much of the second half, they were able to keep things close and took that 64-61 lead with less than a minute left in the game on a 3-pointer from freshman Darryn Peterson. In the process, No. 13 Texas Tech (16-6, 6-3) also suffered its first loss at home so far this season.

"It means a lot," KU senior Melvin Council Jr. said postgame, discussing earning a win on the road against another quality Big 12 opponent. "We fell against UCF and West Virginia, and we had to get some wins on the road before we could be good in the Big 12."

The Red Raiders weren’t at full strength today, with sophomore Christian Anderson — the team’s second-leading scorer and leader in assists — not playing at all, and the Jayhawks were able to take advantage. Peterson, who led KU with 19 points, was joined in double figures scoring by Council’s 16, sophomore Flory Bidunga’s 14 and senior Tre White’s 10. Freshman Bryson Tiller only had three points for the Jayhawks, but he did have 10 rebounds.

KU now looks ahead to a game Saturday at home against Utah, and an opportunity to continue to add wins inside Allen Fieldhouse. Since Big 12 play began the Jayhawks haven’t lost in that building, with their only defeat so far this season in Lawrence coming against now-No. 3 UConn. Utah has also been one of the worst-performing Big 12 teams this season.
