Manchester United have confirmed Jacob Devaney has joined Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on loan for the remainder of the season.
The teenager will gain senior experience with the Paisley club, having impressed with his performances for United’s youth sides.
St Mirren are sitting 10th in the Premiership table, collecting 20 points from 23 matches.
Devaney is one of the most exciting youth prospects to come through United’s academy.
He joined the club’s academy at the age of six, and has been a regular in the Premier League 2, starting all 11 matches and making two direct goal contributions.
The 18-year-old has trained with the Red Devils’ first-team squad, but he is yet to make his competitive debut.
Devaney has mainly featured as a defensive midfielder this season, but is also capable of playing in central defence and at right-back.
United had a quiet winter transfer window, as they made no additions to the first-team squad.
The Manchester titans have identified Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton or Elliot Anderson as top midfield targets, but their clubs were not prepared to sanction an exit this winter.
United’s focus remained on outgoings in this window, with Sam Mather, Joe Hugill and Rhys Bennett securing permanent transfers away from Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, Gabriele Biancheri, James Scanlon and Ethan Wheatley have left on loan in search of senior football action.
