New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is heading into the 2026 Super Bowl with advice from someone who has been in his position before — Tom Brady.
The 23-year-old NFL star is set to play in his first Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 8, when the Patriots face off against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Feb. 2, Maye was asked to name the best piece of advice that he's ever received from Brady, who won six of his seven Super Bowl rings while playing for the Patriots.
"I’ve met Tom a few times, and one of the best things he says is there’s no shortcuts to it," he reflected, via FOX Sports.

Continuing, Maye added, "There’s no shortcuts to putting in the work, and the proof is in the pudding. And knowing that the shortcuts that people take or can try to take... It's not worth it. Get the most out of what you put into it, and he’s been great at that. And he obviously showed that throughout his career."
Brady made his debut as a member of the NFL team after being drafted in 2000. He played on the team for 20 seasons before moving to Tampa Bay, Fla., to join the Buccaneers.
The star quarterback announced his final retirement in February 2023. Despite reports suggesting that he might come out of retirement a second time, it was determined that Brady is unable to play again, as he is a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Maye joined the Patriots in 2024 and returned for a second season with the team the following year.
Speaking to The News & Observer, Maye's dad, Mark Maye, admitted that he was "surprised" that his son's team was competing against the Seahawks in the final game of the year.
He explained that he was "maybe a little biased" and expected a lot from his son's team, thinking that they "would be better than what people were expecting."
However, he added, "Honestly, it wouldn’t have surprised me for them to make the playoffs. But to make the Super Bowl? That’s pretty tough to do."

Maye will get support from his family, including dad Mark and his mom, Aimee, and his three brothers.
His wife, Ann Michael Maye, will also send him love ahead of the big game.
The professional athlete recently described his wedding as "one of the best decisions" he's ever made, saying, "Good things happen when you get married, and I think that's the case so far in my life."
"What a blessing it's been to have Ann Michael, and to come home to someone who cares about my day. [I'm] able to hear something outside football. I listen to what she's done today, and just knowing that there's a constant in my life, and that's my wife," he gushed. "Every day, I come home to somebody who's herself and cares about me outside of who I am on the field."
