The Big Ten leads the way with 11 teams in the field in Joe Lunardi’s latest ESPN Bracketology projection.
It’s shaping up to be another big year for the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament.
Four teams advanced as far as the Sweet Sixteen last season with Michigan State going onto the Elite Eight, falling just short of making the Final Four against an Auburn team that spent much of the regular season looking dominant. The league sent eight teams to the dance last year and could send even more this year.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projects that 11 teams in the league will make it to the NCAA Tournament in his latest bracketology update on Tuesday morning. That leads the way among all conferences.
Here’s the 11 teams Lunardi projects in the field with their seed assignments and regions:
- No. 1-seed Michigan (Midwest vs Vermont/NC Central)
- No. 2-seed Illinois (East vs ETSU)
- No. 3-seed Michigan State (West vs Wright State)
- No. 3-seed Nebraska (South vs Portland State)
- No. 3-seed Purdue (Midwest vs Troy)
- No. 8-seed Iowa (West vs SMU)
- No. 9-seed Wisconsin (South vs NC State)
- No. 10-seed Indiana (West vs Auburn)
- No. 10-seed UCLA (Midwest vs Kentucky)
- *No. 11-seed Ohio State (West, First Four vs Texas)
- *No. 11-seed USC (East, First Four vs San Diego State)
Indiana and UCLA are in the Last Four Byes while Ohio State and USC are in the Last Four In. There’s still something to prove for those around the middle of the league standings in these next few weeks as they make or break their cases to dance.
