Tyus Jones Traded To Charlotte

The Hornets picked up a savvy point guard who should be a big asset.

Former Duke point guard Tyus Jones has been traded from the Orlando Magic to the Charlotte Hornets, where he’ll join fellow former Blue Devil Kon Knueppel. He’ll most likely back up LaMelo Ball. Given Ball’s injury history, having a solid backup is a really good idea.

Charlotte got some redundancy there, also trading for former Tar Heel Colby White.

White has had some success in Chicago, but there aren’t many guards anywhere smarter than Jones. For our money, he was Duke’s smartest point guard ever, and Duke’s had some great ones: Tommy Amaker, Bobby Hurley, Jon Scheyer, Quinn Cook and Jones’ brother Tre to name a few.

It’s hard to know how things will work in Charlotte, but the Hornets have emerged as one of the most fun teams in the league. You can say this about Jones: he’ll never hurt his team and with so much great ball movement and great chemistry, he’s likely to be a big asset.
