Igor Thiago has been nominated for January’s Premier League Player of the Month award.
The Brentford forward added a further five goals to his tally in January, taking it to 16 for the season, as he attempts to chase down Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot. Thiago is four goals adrift of the Manchester City striker.
Thiago’s goals came in two games: the 24-year-old scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win at Everton and bagged a brace in a 3-0 victory over Sunderland at Gtech Community Stadium.
With his first goal of the game against Sunderland, Thiago equalled the record of 15 scored by a Brazilian in a Premier League campaign, jointly held by three players: Matheus Cunha (in 2024/25 for Wolverhampton Wanderers), Gabriel Martinelli (2022/23 for Arsenal) and Roberto Firmino (2017/18 for Liverpool).
Thiago’s second goal against the Black Cats took his tally to 16 and moved him ahead as the outright record holder.
Thiago, who won Premier League Player of the Month for November, has been nominated for January’s award alongside Yasin Ayari (Brighton and Hove Albion), Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United), Enzo Fernández (Chelsea), Junior Kroupi (Bournemouth), Crysencio Summerville (West Ham United), Harry Wilson (Fulham) and Florian Wirtz (Liverpool).
