Super Bowl 60: What did Seattle Seahawks get in Geno Smith trade?

Super Bowl team turned veteran quarterback into young signal caller in deal

As we prepare for Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, we are looking at connections between the Las Vegas Raiders and the two franchises.

A big connection kicked off the 2025 offseason as the Raiders acquired starting quarterback Geno Smith from the Seahawks for a third-round pick (No. 92 overall).

The Seahawks turned that pick not Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

It completed a big shift for Seattle at the quarterback position in the offseason. Shortly after trading Smith, the Seahawks signed Sam Darnold in free agency. Going with Darnold, who was cheaper than Smith, turned out to be a brilliant move as he has led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks have high hopes for Milroe as well. They are developing him and hope he can have a future as a starter.

Ironically, had the Raiders kept that third-round pick, Milroe may ae been a target with the pick.

The Raiders closely studied quarterback prior to last year’s draft and Milroe was often connected to Las Vegas.

Smith, of course, had a terrible season in Las Vegas and is expected to be released this offseason. So, Seattle has to feel good about the trade.
