Christian McCaffrey Opens Up About Wedding to Olivia Culpo and How They Kept Their Nuptials Private

Amid high-profile celebrity weddings this year, Christian McCaffrey is opening up about how he kept his own ceremony to Olivia Culpo personal and private.

During a backstage conversation with USA Today at the Intuit for Education Super Bowl Financial Literacy Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 3, the San Francisco 49ers running back, 29, reflected on his 2024 wedding to Culpo, 33, and explained how they successfully kept details of their nuptials under wraps until they were ready to share on their own terms.

Much like how Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco had a private wedding and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are staying tight-lipped on plans, McCaffrey and Culpo focused on strategic planning and keeping people they trusted around.

"I have the best wife and she did a great job of doing that," McCaffrey said of maintaining wedding privacy. "I never have a hard time having fun and keeping it to myself or keeping it to us, but it can get so stressful. And I think I say I have the best wife because there's nobody that plans better than her."

He continued, "Having the preparation done early and everything exactly how we wanted it to be. And then also, I just feel really lucky because a lot of that has to do with the company you keep and the people that are there."

The couple tied the knot on June 29, 2024, in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, in a chapel ceremony followed by a private reception at the Ocean House, a seaside resort that shut down entirely for their guests. Workers used umbrellas to shield the bride from paparazzi.

"We have the best friends and the best family, so it just felt like home," McCaffrey said. "It was a cool event and a big wedding and beautiful flowers and a great venue, all these things, but at the end of the day, the people there were all of our friends and family that we love to death, so it made it really easy for us to be present."

After the wedding, an exclusive source told PEOPLE that there was a no-phones policy at the celebration, "which everyone loved." The source added, "It was so nice to be present and soak in the entire weekend and spend quality time with everyone."

The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Colette, in July 2025, just over a year after they wed.
