Recap

1st Inning

Sophomore Jazzy Francik got the start in the 1st game of the season against the Samford Bulldogs, out of the Southern Conference. The All American right hander allowed one walk, but got her other three opponents down on strikes in the 1st inning.

With the bats for the first time this season, Marin Heller not only got her first hit as a Seminole, but the first for her squad. Following one out double from the freshman, the ‘Noles could not make much of the offense, as miscues and quick at bats got Samford back in the dugout.

2nd Inning

Another freshman, this time Hayley Griggs, doubled her way on base in the 2nd inning. With two outs on the board, Madi Frey followed Griggs. However, for the second straight inning, the ‘Noles left runners on base and kept the game scoreless.

3rd Inning

FSU created some two out magic, as Jaysoni Beachum and Shelby McKenzie both occupied bases. Ashtyn Danley squared up a pitch, and drove it into center field, deep enough to bring home Beachum.

Anne Hinde continued a tremendous outing for FSU freshmen, as she drove in the first RBI of her career, making it a 2-0 difference. Samford’s Brandy Phillips got her team out of the inning with only two runs allowed.

7th Inning

After six complete, near perfect innings, Francik looked to close out the night cap of the JoAnne Graf Classic. After her seventh strike out of the game, Francik got the next two Bulldog batter to pop up, sealing the win and the programs first no hitter since 1986.
