The Patriots will play the Seahawks in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday.
The New England Patriots have played in some challenging weather conditions over the second half of the season, but Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks will not fall into that same category. In fact, if the current forecast turns out accurate, the game will be their most pleasant since early November.
According to NFL Weather, the kickoff temperature at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara will be 58°F with no wind chill factor to speak of. Additionally, no precipitation is expected either. Temperatures will drop slightly over the course of the game, but not fall below 55°F by the fourth quarter.
The National Weather Service, meanwhile, predicts patchy fog and “mostly cloudy” conditions with a low of around 46°F on Sunday night.
For the Patriots, this marks a clear change compared to their last few games. The last time they experienced a kickoff temperature of 58°F or higher came in Week 10, when they beat the Buccaneers with a final score of 28-23. Since then, cold and snow have been on the menu.
In fact, entering the Super Bowl, the team of head coach Mike Vrabel had played eight straight games in sub-40°F weather. While it mostly weathered any meteorological challenges and ended up going 7-1 over that stretch, adverse conditions did have a major impact in the AFC Championship Game against the Broncos; blizzard conditions in the second half made moving and kicking the ball a difficult task for both teams.
The Seahawks, for comparison, played both of their postseason game so far in conditions similar to the ones they will encounter on Sunday.
Kickoff between the AFC champion Patriots and the NFC champion Seahawks is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
