The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak as head coach, who’s last game there in the Super Bowl.

Let’s look at some coaches who recently made the same move.

2025

Kellen Moore:

He was the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator and was headed toward the New Orleans Saints. Like Kubiak, Moore was a well-regarded young offensive mind who was getting his first head-coaching job. His team won the Super Bowl and the Saints showed promise at the end of his first season there.

2023

Jonathan Gannon:

He was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator and went to the Arizona Cardinals. His team lost a high-scoring game to the Kansas City Chiefs and then he was just fired after three unproductive seasons with the Cardinals.

Shane Steichen:

Like Gannon. Steichen was leaving the Eagles. He was there offensive coordinator. He was a first-time head coach heading to the Indianapolis Colts. He is still with the Colts.

2019:

Brian Flores:

The New England Patriots’ defensive coordinator had a dream goodbye to the team as his unit was dominant in a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He went to the Miami Dolphins were he lasted three seasons.

Zac Taylor:

On the other side of the field, Taylor was the Rams’ offensive coordinator. He followed up his unit’s dud performance by taking the Cincinnati Bengals’ job. He is still there.

2018

Matt Patricia:

He left a 14-year stint as a New England assistant coach and went to the Detroit Lions for three seasons after his team lost to the Eagles after giving up 41 points.

2017:

Kyle Shanahan:

Shanahan’s last game as the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons will be remembered bitterly. He played a key role in the Falcons’ infamous choke job of giving up a 28-3 lead midway through the third quarter, eventually losing to to Tom Brady and the Patriots. Shanahan has bounced back well. He has enjoyed a long, successful run as the San Francisco 49ers’ head coach.
