Why Georgia football has an unsigned recruit

The Georgia Bulldogs still have a major question to answer in the class of 2026. What is the future of UGA commit Chace Calicut?

The Georgia Bulldogs still have one significant question after national signing day for the class of 2026. Signing day passed without Georgia announcing the official signing of defensive back recruit Chace Calicut.

The four-star safety recruit committed to Georgia back in June 2025. He has not announced his decommitment from Georgia or anything like that, so his future is up in the air. The Bulldogs announced the official signing of numerous other class of 2026 recruits, but not Calicut, who was one of Georgia's two remaining unsigned recruits entering signing day.

Why has Georgia not signed Calicut? The Bulldogs know Calicut has been dealing with a legal situation. Calicut recently had aggravated assault with a deadly weapon felony charges dismissed from an off-the-field incident.

Westlake Chaparrals wide receiver Chase Bowen (11) and North Shore Mustangs free safety Chace Calicut (22) collide after the punt bounces in the first quarter as the Chaparrals take on the Mustangs in the Conference 6A Division 1 UIL State Playoff semi-final game at Legacy Stadium in Katy, Dec. 14, 2024.

It is unclear what Calicut's college football future holds at this point in time, but we'll provide an update when we hear confirmation on what his plan is.

The four-star safety is ranked as the No. 318 recruit in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound defensive back is the No. 28 safety in the nation and the No. 42 recruit in Texas.

For now, Calicut technically remains a Georgia commit, but since he did not sign with UGA it is unclear how he'd join the Georgia roster unless he becomes a walk-on.
